The Short Movie Review:

When the first Guardians came out in 2014, oh boy that feels like ages ago. I had already read the comics of the new 2008 comics and was very excited to see it. It did not disappoint, the story was pretty simple and the flow of the acts was awesome accompanied with an awesome sound track.
Now in Guardians Vol 2, I enjoyed the film a lot from the perspective of character development and the awesome CGI. However, this sound track felt lacking and I didn't quite feel like the music was a soulful to the film as the first one. Frankly, I found myself not know most of the songs...
In this film we expanded the universe even more in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, bringing in Celestials and other Ravagers, and the Sovereign and their Space Invader Ships and Arcade Controls.
If you are looking for a movie that rivals Guardians 1 on its action, quick paced fun story, with no depth... this movie is quite different. It was a slow movie and I felt at times the writers treated the first two acts like a sitcom, with jokes and jokes after jokes, most of which were hilarious.
In Guardians Volume 2, you get a movie that expands on everyone, we dive into the relationship between Chris and his Mother and Father, we get to find out more about Nebula and Gamora... Rocket and Yondu... Yondu and everyone else really... He was great in this film.
Drax and Mantis both felt more like the joke bots, which worked for the most part but outside of that, there wasn't too much character development. But One scene (not a spoiler) Mantis was able to feel what Drax felt, and that scene was very touching to me. I'll touch on that in the favorite moments section below.
Lastly... Baby Groot. Had a lot of the cute/funny moments, but I think the writers gave him too much time to mess around and just be... cute... a little less would have helped. That being said... that 1 scene after coming out of a few warp jumps... hahahahahah
My Favorite Moments of Guardians Vol 2.
- Mantis and Drax's moment of sadness. In a very subtle way we got to see that Drax The Destroyer is still haunted by the loss of his family and not just a being that takes everything literally.
- Yondu and Rocket. There is this one scene with them screaming at each other, as a Genetically Mutated Raccoon and a leader of a group of Ravagers do.... It gave me the feels.
- Yondu and Star Lord... another incredible scene with Yondu, those who watched it, did you also have a tear in you eye?
Conclusion:
My favorite parts of this movie is all of the interactions between each of the characters. I am a sucker for all of the scenes that develop these characters... whether that is from Iron Man 1 where Tony had the talk about the plan to escape with the man who saved his life... to the quibble and reflection between Loki and Thor in Thor 2.... to the round table dinner chat in Age of Ultron, to the Debate in Civil War... to the talk Dr. Strange had with the Ancient one in the slomo scene...
Well before I go off topic, my conclusion with Guardians Vol 2, was that the movie was not great in terms of story, the action did not really pick up until the start of the Third Act... the first 2 felt like the story could have been a bit more clear on where it was going and perhaps picked up the pace a little bit more, too much dead time.
